KARACHI, June 30: The Supreme Court admitted to regular hearing an appeal by some Bath Island (Clifton) residents against construction of a six-storey building in neighbourhood.

The appellants submitted through Advocate Naeemur Rehman that under the terms of leases granted by the then KMC, the Bath Island plots were to be used for residential purposes. No bungalow was to have more than two floors in addition to the ground floor. A builder was now raising a six-storey structure (on plot number C-5) in violation of the terms and conditions in disregard of the availability of public utilities and civic amenities and threat to environment and the overall quality of life.

They said the KBCA, which is said to have approved the plan, has been left with no authority as it has become part of the city government under the SLGO.

An SC bench allowed the petition for leave to challenge the high court’s order at Islamabad.
