HYDERABAD, June 30: The Sindh Abadgar Board has said that rebate on mango exports from July 1 instead of June 1 will only benefit farmers of Punjab.
In a communication addressed to the prime minister, a member of the executive committee of the Sindh Abadgar Board, Mr Imdad Nizamani, said that the government had taken a good decision for providing rebate on mango exports but growers of Sindh would not receive any benefit from it.
He said that mango growers of Sindh would have harvested most of the crop before July 1 and they would be deprived of benefits of rebate.
Mr Nizamani said that the government was not following an appropriate policy with regards to farmers of Sindh and Punjab.
He said that only a few days back when mango harvest was in full swing in Sindh, the government quite suddenly increased mango freight.
He said that the decision badly hampered the marketing of mangoes produced in Sindh.
He said that now again the government had taken another abrupt decision that rebate on mango exports would be available only from July 1.
He said that such decisions were bound to create misunderstanding and bitterness among growers of Sindh.
In order to avoid such an unpleasant situation, Mr Nizamani said that it was imperative for the government to announce a consistent policy well before the start of mango season.
He appealed to the prime minister to amend the rebate date from July 1 to June 1 for the benefit of mango growers of Sindh.
SENIOR CITIZENS: The district chapter of the Pakistan Senior Citizens Association has hailed the federal government decision to announce a package of privileges for senior citizens through an act of parliament.
In a statement issued here on Friday, the president of the association, Dr Noor Mohammad Memon and senior-vice president Murad Ali Nizamani said that the government had earned the gratitude and goodwill of elders of the country who have been waiting for over half a century to hear a happy news.
They appealed to members of parliament not to confine the package to only few items which were already in vogue but to include all privileges proposed in the package in consonance with the charter adopted by the United Nations for the ageing people.
