KARACHI: Interpol has issued a red notice for the arrest of fugitive Lyari gangster Wasiullah Lakho, who is wanted by Karachi police in multiple serious cases and believed to be hiding abroad.

According to Interpol, a red notice is a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action.

South DIG Syed Asad Raza said on Wednesday that Interpol’s General Secretariat in Lyon, France, issued the notice against Pakistani national Wasi Ullah Lakho at the request of the Ministry of Interior.

The notice says that Lakho, along with accomplices linked to the Lyari gang war, has allegedly been involved in murders, extortion and attacks on police in Karachi. He is wanted for prosecution in more than 60 criminal cases.

Interpol issued the red notice in connection with a case registered at Kalri police station in 2014 under Sections 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 324 (attempt to commit qatl-i-amd), and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Police said Lakho fled the country to evade arrest. A competent court has declared him a proclaimed offender and issued perpetual arrest warrants against him.

Officials believe he may be hiding in Iran or Dubai.
