OKARA: A man has been convicted of rape and sentenced to 10-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) along with a fine.
The court of Additional District and Sessions Judge Rana Khalil Ahmad Khan heard the abduction and rape case involving a 17/18-year-old private college student.
The case was registered by Okara Saddar police under Sections 365-B and 376 of the Pakistan Penal Code against the accused, Salman Afzal, a resident of Pasrur, Sialkot district.
According to the prosecution, on Sept 17, 2022, the convict abducted the victim from near her college on GT Road in the city’s suburbs and allegedly raped her. After completion of the trial, the court found Salman Afzal guilty under Section 376 of PPC and awarded him 10-year RI along with a fine of Rs50,000.
In case of default on payment of the fine, the convict will undergo an additional three months of simple imprisonment. He has been shifted to District Jail Okara.
ACCIDENT: A truck driver was run over and killed under his own vehicle after it overturned following a collision with a motorcycle near the Murgha Khana stop on GT Road, leaving two motorcyclists injured.
According to Rescue 1122, the truck struck a motorcycle and then overturned, trapping the driver, Munir Ahmad, beneath it and killing him on the spot. The two motorcyclists, identified as Abu Bakr and Sadaqat Ali, residents of 14/1-L, sustained injuries.
Rescue 1122 shifted the body and the injured to the South City DHQ Hospital.
