LAKKI MARWAT, June 29: On the Supreme Court’s orders, the Lakki police have lodged an FIR against the department’s officials and constables for allegedly killing two young men in a fake encounter in 2001. Sources said that Akbar Nawaz and Kalimullah were arrested after they had allegedly shot dead Constable Naeem Khan on Sept 4, 2001. They were killed in an alleged encounter by the Lakki police the same day.

The sources said that relatives of the slain men, Syed Nawaz and Abdul Wahid, approached the Peshawar High Court, Dera Ismail Khan Bench, and then the Supreme Court to seek justice and registration of case against the police personnel involved in the killing.

The sources said the apex court upheld the judgment of the Peshawar High Court and directed the quarters concerned to lodge a report against the police officials and personnel involved.

“Following the orders of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, the Lakki Marwat police have filed a case under sections 302, 148 and 149 of PPC against three police officials — the then superintendent of police Faseehuddin Ashraf, DSP Mir Syed and SHO Umar Faraz — and Constables Shehzada, Ahmad Nawaz, Munawar Khan, Abdul Khalik and Shafiq Ahmad,” the sources said.

Complainant Syed Nawaz said that on Sept 4, 2001 two people booked his taxi for Chuharkhel village. He said they were on their way and found that the Lakki police had blocked the road near Shah Hasankhel village.

He said some of the accused police officials were there as were a large number of people, adding that his brother Akbar Nawaz was on a police pickup along with Kalimullah.

He said SHO Umar Faraz and police constables following the orders of their officers pulled down the detainees from the pickup up and shot them dead.

“Police officials present on the spot threatened me and other witnesses with dire consequences if we tried to lodge a report,” the complainant said.
