Lebanon’s President Joseph Aoun has stressed that his country makes decisions for itself and that his government is pushing forward only the interests of the Lebanese people, according to Al Jazeera.
Aoun has defended Beirut’s decision to enter into direct talks with Israel days after the Israeli military killed hundreds of people throughout the country.
“These negotiations are not weakness. They are not a retreat. They are not a concession,” he has said in a televised address. “They are a decision stemming from the strength in our belief in our rights and care for our people, and our responsibility to protect our country by all means possible.”
