KARACHI, June 29: Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad taking note of the power crisis in the city on Thursday sought the federal government's help in this respect.
Talking to Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on telephone he requested him to ensure continuous supply from Wapda.
He also summoned the KESC officials to discuss in detail the public complaints about frequent power breakdowns in the city.
He asked the power utility officials to make the facts about this power crisis known to the people instead of confusing them with technicalities and take measures to provide them with relief.
He said the situation could improve if the corporation took citizens into confidence and sought their co-operation. He also issued directives to the police officials to take stern action against elements involved in subversive activities in the guise of protests against load shedding and asked them to keep a vigilant eye on such elements by activating intelligence network.
City Nazim Syed Mustafa Kamal and Karachi CCPO Niaz Siddiqui also attended the meeting.
Meanwhile, the City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, also appealed to the President and Prime Minister to play their role in overcoming the current power crisis in the metropolis while directing the KESC management to take necessary steps in this regard.
The city nazim also talked to high officials of the KESC over telephone on Thursday and told them that the current power crisis in the city was adding miseries to the lives of Karachiites and badly affecting economic, business and uplift activities.
He asked the power utility officials to contain the problem by adopting a better strategy.
He advised them to arrange daily media briefing to keep citizens informed about the demand and supply of electricity, cancel the leaves of all staff by declaring emergency, and notify a 24-hour duty schedule through the media.
The nazim stressed the KESC management to take citizens into confidence and tell them facts and reasons behind the current power crisis in the metropolis.
He also appealed to citizens to show extra patience under the current circumstances.—PPI/ APP
