UN chief Antonio Guterres has welcomed the announcement of the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon in a post on X and commended the US’ role in its facilitation.
“I hope this will pave the way for negotiations towards a long-term solution to the conflict and contribute to ongoing efforts toward a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region,” he said, urging the involved parties to respect the ceasefire and comply with international law.
