China’s foreign minister says the priority is to push the US and Iran back to negotiations, citing the “serious impacts the protracted conflict has had on international energy security and the security of shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz”, Reuters reports.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi made the remarks during a meeting with his Italian counterpart, Antonio Tajani, in Beijing.
China is willing to enhance cooperation and coordination with Italy over international and regional issues, says Wang, calling both countries “ancient civilisations that cherish peace,” according to a summary of the meeting released by the Chinese foreign ministry.
