SAHIWAL: Acting on the directives of Commissioner Dr Asif Tufail, the district administration has declared 28 housing schemes illegal and barred people from buying or selling plots in these schemes.

Deputy Commissioner Samiullah Farooq told Dawn on Wednesday that these 28 housing schemes fell under the jurisdiction of Sahiwal Zila Council.

He added that most of these private housing schemes were developed between 2015 and 2025, but many of them were almost undeveloped, while others have witnessed less than 20-25 per cent development work.

As per legal requirement, a housing scheme should at least have completed 20pc development work to be declared legal. He says that only one housing scheme has completed 90 per cent of the development work.

Of the 28 schemes declared illegal, 15 are located in Sahiwal tehsil and 13 in Chichawatni tehsil.

The housing societies declared illegal in Sahiwal tehsil include Azeem City (Naiwala Road), Khayaban-e-Sadar (Chak No 56/5-L), Dream Land (Arifwala Road), Rehmat Block (Chak No 138/9-L), Al-Madina Block (Pakpattan Road), Ali Garden (Arifwala Road), Dream Gardens (Chak No 58/G.D), Al-Haram Villas (Chak No 125/9-L), Al-Rehman City Bungalow (Gogera Road), Top City (Main Noor Shah Road), Marina Farms (Chak No 107/9-L), Al-Shakoor Block (Chak No 138/9-L), Khawar Block (Pakpattan Road), Super City Phase 2 (Chak No 133/9-L), and Ayesha City (Naiwala Bungalow).

Similarly, the illegal housing societies in Chichawatni tehsil include, Abdullah Block (Chak No 3/14-L), Ashraf Block (Chak No 109/12-L), Bilal Garden (Chak No 109/12-L), Dream Land (Chak No 111/7-R), Hadi Town (Chak No 109/12-L), Iris City (Adda Khoiwala), Subhani Garden (Chak No 7/14-L), Lasani Town (Chak 8/14-L, Kassowal), Rehman Town (Chak No 1A/14-L, Kassowal), Shahid Town (Chak No 40/12-L), Zahid Block (Chak No 113/12-L), Manzoor Garden (Chak No 118/12-L, Kassowal) and Ahad Block (Chak No 108/7-R).

The commissioner said that these housing scheme lacked the mandatory No Objection Certificate (NOC), development work and other legal documents required for approval.

District Planning Officer Javed Anwar Gondal says that several notices had been issued to the owners of these schemes over the past 5–6 months, but they failed to comply with the legal requirements.
