DERA GHAZI KHAN, June 28: More than two dozen people, including provincial office-bearer of the Pakhtoon Khaw Milli Awami Party and former Taunsa Sharif tehsil naib nazim, are being interrogated as suspects in the city blast case, sources told Dawn.

A blast took place on June 24 in the centre of the city early in the morning, damaging closed shops and leaving four people injured.

The police picked up more than two dozen people, including PKMAP provincial office-bearer Hafeezullah Khan Niazi and former Taunsa Sharif tehsil naib nazim Dilshad Shaheen for interrogation.

Niazi’s brother told Dawn that his brother was called by the police to meet the SHO of the city police station but he did not return. He said the SDPO had confirmed that Niazi was involved in interrogation in the city blast case.

Meanwhile, the police have arrested Mr Shaheen but yet to confirm whether or not he was being interrogated in the blast case.

It is pertinent to mention that the adjacent districts of Dera Ghazi Khan in Balochistan and the NWFP are under trouble.

DPO Salman Chaudhry told Dawn that security in and around the city had been enhanced and more 12 closed-circuit televisions would be installed in the city. He said hotels and restaurants were being regularly checked and rented houses registered. He said the gadgets would be purchased through the police welfare fund.
