KHUZDAR: A 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck Kalat and surrounding areas on Thursday, causing panic among residents and forcing many to abandon their houses and come out on the streets.

Officials said the tremor struck Kalat and Zehri at 4.18pm, forcing residents to leave their homes and seek shelter under the open sky.

The earthquake monitoring centre recorded a magnitude of 4.8 on the Richter scale, and its depth was 11 kilometres while its epicentre was located 50 km southe­ast of Kalat. Officials said no casualty and damage was reported from any area of Kalat and other regions.
