THATTA, June 27: Dissident activists and leaders of student and labour wings of the Pakistan People’s Party on Monday pledged to continue struggle against what they termed unconstitutional and undemocratic decisions of party’s provincial head Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
Speaking at a public meeting held to celebrate the 53rd birthday of Benazir Bhutto, they vowed not to accept any restriction on expression of thought and forcible decisions of the district party president.
Speakers included former MPA Ghulam Qadir Palijo, PPP Sindh Council members Sardar Luqman Malkani and Abdul Sattar Lohar, acting district president Syed Iqbal Shah and Sindh People’s Students Federation district president Manzoor Sarki.
They have resigned in protest against termination of the basic membership of nine taluka party presidents and issuance of show-cause notices to them.
Activists arriving from far-flung areas since morning were chanting slogans: “ Qaim Ali Shah Hatayo; PPP Bachayo” ( remove Qaim Ali Shah, save PPP) and “Arbab Wazir Hatayo; PPP Bachayo” ( remove Arbab Wazir; save PPP).
The speakers claimed that so far over 500 office-bearers and activists of the party throughout the district have tendered their resignations in protest on the formation of new district body, comprising district president Arbab Wazir Ahmed Memon and secretary Pir Ghulam Rehmani.
They said the dissident group was still receiving dozens of resignations of activists throughout the district.
Criticizing political character of the new district office-bearers, the speakers contended that Arbab Wazir and Pir Rehmani were known for hatching conspiracies against the party and bringing Shirazis, a rival group of the PPP, into the power.
Accusing party’s provincial head Syed Qaim Ali Shah of unwise decisions and indirectly benefiting the Shirazis in Thatta, they warned Mr Qaim to stop pursuing anti-PPP and pro-Syed policies.
