KARACHI, June 27: Enraged shopkeepers set ablaze a truck of city government on Tuesday night during an anti-encroachment drive on Tariq Road. “Our truck was set on fire at the main Liberty Chowk and a camp set up in connection with the anti-encroachment drive was uprooted by shopkeepers,” claimed Nazim Jamshed Town Arif Ajayka.

He said that they had warned the shopkeepers that machinery would be brought on Monday to remove illegal constructions.

“When I went to a ‘tandoor’, its owner pushed me calling his associates to attack us. They charged at us opening aerial fire while the police accompanying us ran away,” he claimed.

However, no one was reported injured nor any arrest was made.
