KARACHI, June 26: A Rs1,085 million development-oriented budget of Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town for fiscal 2006-07 was announced by Town Nazim Wasey Jalil here on Monday. According to the town’s budget documents, its anticipated income stands at Rs1,085 million as against its overall expenditures of Rs1084.5 million during the next financial year, indicating a marginal surplus of Rs0.5 million.

Among the major allocations, the budget documents show that Rs253.6 million have been earmarked for construction of roads, streets, footpaths; Rs39.3 million for provision of streetlights; Rs75 million for solid waste development expenses; Rs72.5 million for development of parks and playgrounds; Rs15 million for development and improvement of the town’s main office; Rs59.8 million for repair and maintenance of water and sewerage lines; Rs50 million for cleaning of nullahs; Rs4 million for providing and improving dustbins; Rs3.5 million for construction and improvement of culverts; Rs50 million for purchasing machines; Rs32 million for development and improvement of works recommended by council members; Rs4.2 million for purchasing and installing computer hardware, networking and complaint centre; Rs6 million for medical facilities of employees; Rs118 million for development work to be undertaken in coordination with citizens’ community board and Rs10 million for staff housing scheme.The town’s non-development expenditures for the fiscal 2006-07 include Rs144 million under the head of establishment; Rs112 million for contingencies and Rs8.5 million for maintenance.

Giving break-up of the budget at a news conference, Town Nazim Wasey Jalil said that the town would get Rs305 million as matching grant from Sindh government during fiscal 2006-07, Rs360 million under the head of its share of property tax from the city government while its own receipts would come to Rs420 million.

Highlighting the salient features of the budget, Mr Jalil said that a major chunk of Rs681.2 million had been earmarked for communications, followed by Rs222.88 million for health and sanitation, Rs106.87 million for recreation and Rs61.47 million for municipal services.

He said that with a view to providing relief to the inhabitants of the town, Nadra’s services had been acquired for installing billing machines at UC level.

He said that the town had already embarked upon a project of setting up public toilets in collaboration with philanthropists and one such toilet has already been constructed near NIPA traffic intersection .

Referring to the city government’s plan of constructing a hospital near NIPA traffic intersection, he said that the hospital which would have most modern facilities and equipped with the latest equipments would initially be of 100 beds but later on it would have 350 beds.

SITE: SITE Town Nazim Izharuddin Ahmed Khan on Monday presented a budget of Rs464.75 million for his town for the fiscal year 2006-07, add agencies.

An amount of Rs302.2 million was allocated for development works in the budget having a surplus of Rs2.46 million.

SHAH FAISAL: The municipal administration of Shah Faisal Town initiated immediate replacement of dilapidated drinking water supply lines in various areas of the town to overcome the paucity of clean drinking water in the area.

Town administration has already collected data about the requirements of drinking water in various localities of the town through a survey conducted on the directives of Town Nazim Muhammad Imran, said a statement issued on Monday.

In this connection, the town nazim inaugurated installation of a 2,350ft-long and 3-inch-dia drinking water line in Gulshan-i-Tayyabi at Union Council-7.

Town Nazim Muhammad Imran said that provision of appropriate share of clean drinking water was one of the long standing demands of town residents.

Town Naib Nazim Ali Akbar, UC-6 Nazim Mirza Afaq Baig and other town officials were also present.

LYARI: The KWSB on Monday restored water supply to various areas of Lyari Town.

The pipeline supplying water to around 500 houses was made functional on the directives of City Nazim Mustafa Kamal.

Lyari Town Nazim Malik Fayaz and UC-9 Nazim Abdul Wahid thanked the authorities concerned for restoring supply of water and expressed hope that water would also be provided to other affected areas of the town as well.
