A statement issued by police said that the arrested suspects, Haris and Musa Khan, belonging to Isakhel locality of Sufaid Sang area, had planned to attack former deputy speaker of provincial assembly Mehmood Jan.

“Timely action of police foiled a major plot,” the statement quoted Capital City Police Officer Dr Mian Saeed Ahmad as saying. It said that the suspects were arrested on Pishtakhara road.

The suspects were charged under relevant sections of law and were being probed.

On May 20, 2023, an armed clash took place between Isakhel tribe and the family of Mehmood Jan in Regi area. Exchange of fire between them continued for hours, but police and district administration officials failed to reach the spot.

Regi police station officials said that the clash was result of an old property dispute between the two groups. They said that clashes had also taken place between them in the past.
