DADU, June 25: The Sindh government has launched a water pumping scheme to supply 200 cusecs water to the Manchhar lake through the Danister canal.

The work is being carried out at a cost of Rs50 million.

The Sindh chief minister had ordered the pumping water into the lake for providing relief to local fishermen, farmers and people living in areas adjoining the lake.

Sukkur Barrage chief engineer Agha Aijaz Ahmed and superintending engineer Ghulam Haider Qureshi have held meetings with farmers, local people and fishermen at the Danister canal.

They collected suggestions for using water for drinking and agriculture.

They also visited parts of the Manchhar bund.

Agha Aijaz said that 200 cusecs fresh water from the Indus river would be supplied to the Manchhar lake by installing 12 water pumps on the Danister canal.

He said that water would also be released to 34,874 acre land in the areas through 30 small branches of the Danister canal.

He said that when the water level would increase in the Indus river, the water would be supplied from 200 to 500 cusecs but when the level would decrease, only 200 cusecs water would be supplied to the lake.

Engineer Shafqat Wadhoo said that desilting of the Danister canal would also be carried out from RD-0 to RD-60.
