PESHAWAR: A government school in Ghora village in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu was destroyed on Thursday in a powerful explosion.

According to the details, unidentified miscreants planted explosives at the Government Primary School Noor Jan Baka Khel, located in Ghora village in the Baka Khel area of Bannu, and blew up the building.

As a result of the explosion, the school structure was completely destroyed.

Police sources have claimed that militants were allegedly staying inside the school and were busy preparing an improvised explosive device (IED) when the explosion occurred. However, this claim has not yet been officially confirmed.

Meanwhile, security sources have also reported the presence of a suspected suicide bomber in Bannu. In response, police and other law enforcement agencies have issued a high alert across the city.

A police official stated that reports of a possible suicide attacker have been received, with Bannu Police Lines believed to be the potential target. Considering the sensitivity of the situation, immediate and effective security measures have been taken, he said.

The Bannu Police Lines Road has been closed to all traffic and security has been tightened across the city to prevent any untoward incident.

A wave of concern has spread among local residents, while law enforcement agencies continue to closely monitor the situation.

It is also noteworthy that a peace march is scheduled to take place in Bannu tomorrow, for which a strong public mobilisation campaign is currently underway.

KP has seen a rise in terror attacks in the past year. According to the Annual Security Report 2025 from the Centre for Research and Security Studies (CRSS), KP recorded a significant surge in violence last year as “fatalities rose from 1,620 in 2024 to 2,331 in 2025”.

A vacant police post located in the Adhami Pul area of KP’s Domel was partially damaged in a bomb explosion on Monday night.

Earlier this month, four bodies were recovered near the Torah Khula Bakakhel area of Bannu and one person was found injured.
