KARACHI, June 24: While private hospitals are receiving an average two-four patients of viral haemorrhagic fever per day, EDO Health Dr Khalid Sheikh has asked health officers to ensure all precautionary measures and attend to the suspected cases promptly, it is learnt officially.

The Liaquat National Hospital admitted about 45 cases of haemorrhagic fever during the last two months out of which two were turned out to be confirmed Congo Crimean and 30 dengue-infected cases.

The two Congo-infected patients from Balochistan got recovered and were discharged whereas one boy, a resident of Karachi, with confirmed dengue fever, could not survive.

Till June 24, the Aga Khan University Hospital had received 10 cases of haemorrhagic fever in 10 days.

One patient from Balochistan, a positive Congo Crimean case, died on June 20 whereas condition of two dengue patients under treatment were recovering.

EDO Dr Sheikh said that no such cases had been reported at any city government health centre or Sindh government teaching hospital in the city so far.

He said that as per the reports received from private hospitals, the LNH had received 23 cases of suspected haemorrhagic fever since June 15.

Any patient having fever or flu like symptoms, rashes, insomnia and depression, along with blood chemistry of low platelet count and tendency of bleeding, may be taken as suspected viral haemorrhagic fever case and should immediately be referred to a teaching hospital for further diagnosis and management, the EDO added.
