Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has had a telephonic conversation with his Turkish counterpart, during which he discussed “regional developments and the consequences of the illegal war by the United States and the zionist regime on the security of the region and the world,” the foreign ministry says.

According to a statement by the Iranian foreign ministry, “Araghchi, detailing the crimes committed by the aggressors against the Iranian people, especially attacks on schools, hospitals, and residential areas, emphasised Iran’s determination to decisively defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity”.

“He stated that Iran’s action in targeting the military bases and facilities of the aggressors in the countries of the region is in line with the inherent right to self-defence, and we regret that the territories of the Islamic countries in the region are being misused for attacks by the US and the zionist regime against Iran,” the statement read.

While referring to security and stability of the region and the Strait of Hormuz, he said, “The insecurity imposed on the Strait of Hormuz is a direct result of the military aggression by the US and the zionist regime, and the countries of the region and the world must hold the creators of this situation accountable and make them answer for their crimes.”

Meanwhile, Turkiye’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, referring to the consequences of the continuation of the war in the region and his recent consultations with other countries, “emphasised the necessity of efforts to reduce tensions and strengthen relations between Iran and the countries of the region”, the statement said.
