ISLAMABAD: Holding judges responsible for ensuring that justice prevails in society, PTI founder Imran Khan has criticised the role of the judiciary.
His words were conveyed by his son, Kasim, who spoke to the incarcerated former prime minister after the latter was allowed a phone call with his sons over Eid.
In a message, shared on X after their call, Kasim relayed his father’s words. In his message, Mr Khan lamented that his party had approached the courts on multiple occasions, but to no avail.
He said that inhumane treatment was being meted out to his wife, Bushra Bibi and that she was being kept in 24-hour isolation, except for a 30-minute meeting with her spouse every week, and even that “is often ignored”, he claimed.
The phone call over Eid was ostensibly the first contact between Mr Khan and his sons for a considerable amount of time. Kasim and his older brother Sulaiman live in London with their mother, Jemima, and have intended to travel to Pakistan to meet their father.
The two said in December they had applied for visas and were planning a trip to Pakistan. Later, reports emerged claiming that the government was refusing to grant visas to Mr Khan’s sons.
At the same time, Kasim alleged the government was “deliberately” refusing to process his and his brother’s visas.
Last week, Information Minister Atta Tarar said both men were welcome to visit Pakistan using their Nicop after their mother appealed to PM Shehbaz. A day later, Jemima shot back, alleging that the government recommended them to travel using their Pakistani identity documents so they would have “no British protection” once in the country.
