ATTOCK, June 23: District and Session Judge Chaudhry Mohammad Younis has summoned the SHO Attock City police for allegedly keeping a person in illegal detention and harassing him at the police lockup.

Younis Khan had filed a writ petition against the newly- appointed SHO Raja Sabbir Hussain who, he claimed, was involved in abuse of official powers. The petitioner said he had a dispute with some residents of Kamalpur Syedan, Attock, as they were reluctant to pay back his amount.

The residents approached the SHO, asking him to pressurise Mr Khan to withdraw his demand. But Mr Khan refused to do so as the police were not authorised to deal with monetary disputes.

On June 13, few policemen came to Mr Khan’s business centre in his absence and took his nephew, Tariq Khan, to the City police station where they kept him in the lockup illegally.

When the complainant contacted the SHO, he expressed complete ignorance about the issue. However, Mr Khan along with two notables of the area went to the City police station where he found his nephew in miserable condition. When asked about his offence, the SHO said he had been detained in response to the residents’ complaint, and Mr Khan should reach a settlement with them to secure his nephew’s release.
