ISLAMABAD, June 23: The Working Women Organisation Trust has criticised the amendments made by the government to labour laws for extending working hours till 10pm.
In a press release, the trust said by ignoring Senate, the government had weakened the federation which was already threatened by insurgency in Balochistan and Waziristan, as the Finance Bill was only dealt with by the National Assembly.
The trust said the haste in passing the amendment through “undemocratic” way was a clear proof that the government was only interested in protecting the interests of multinationals, ignoring its own people. The extension in working hours will create many problems for the women workers and assurance of transport will not help them as majority of the workers lives in underdeveloped areas where no transport can reach. At the most, they will drop them on main roads and walking from there to houses will not be safe during night time.
