KARACHI, June 23: A group of leading religious scholars here on Friday rejected what they called a media blitz against the jurisprudential matters of Islam, and demanded an end to it.

Allama Mohammad Isfandar Yar Khan of Jamia Darul Khair, Mufti Mohammad Zar Wali Khan of Jamia Ahsanul Uloom Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Maulana Mohammad Asad Thanvi of Jamia Ashrafia Sukkur, Maulana Mufti Mohiuddin of Jamia Islamia Clifton, Maulana Mohammad Saad Zikria Qasmi of Jamia Islamia Anwarul Uloom, Maulana Abdul Mannan Anwar of Madressah Arabia Kashmir Complex, Mufti Mohammad Bukhari of Jamia Dawatul Haq Korangi, Mufti Ghulam Rasool of Jamia Kashiful Uloom, Allama Mohammad Abdullah of Madressah Ashaatul Islam Hyderi, Mufti Liaquat Ali Shah of Jamia Islamia Darweshia Sindhi Muslim Society, Maulana Mawiatul Qasmi of Jamia Madina Gulshan-i-Iqbal, Mufti Saifur Rehman, Administrator Jamia Hanfia Baldia Town, Maulana Qariullah Dad of Jamia Farooq-i-Azam Mehmoodabad, Maulana Ahmed Ali Madni, Maulana Zahid Mahmood Siddiqui, Maulana Din Mohammad Usman, Mufti Hamadullah Waheed, Maulana Hamadullah, Maulana Mohammad Umer Farooqui, Maulana Hazrat Wali, Maulana Qari Mohammad Amin and Maulana Faiz Mohammad Faiz in their joint statement said the Muslims of Pakistan would not allow vested interest to target the religious values of Islam in the name of press freedom.

They said such programmes were misguiding people about the teachings of Islam. They said the opinion of expert Muslim jurisprudential experts was must on these issues. They also expressed their concern over promotion of an obscenity-based culture on electronic media.

They demanded that only qualified Muslim jurisprudential experts be allowed to discuss these highly technical and sensitive legal issues. They requested the religious quarters belonging to all schools of thought to join hands to cope with the conspiracies against Islamic values.—PPI
