SARGODHA: A man allegedly killed his wife, daughter and four minor sons in the name of “honour” and later attempted suicide at Chak No 25-SB in Bhagtanwala police station limits.

According to police sources, the suspect, Yasin, allegedly axed to death his family members and attempted suicide by injuring himself with a knife on Sunday night.

According to the police, complainant Mansoor Hasnain said his sister Farkhunda was married to Yasin some 18 years back and the couple had a daughter and four sons.

He said that on Sunday night, when he visited his sister’s house to give her Eid gifts, he heard noise. He said that he knocked at the door but no one opened it.

The complainant said that when he looked inside the house from over the boundary wall, he saw the suspect was attacking his wife and children with an axe. They were left critically injured in the attack, he added.

Later, he said, Yasin attempted to slit his own throat and was seriously injured.

In the attack, Farkhunda Bibi, her daughter Noor Fatima (15), and sons Ali Hassan (12), Tayyab Hassan (10), Hasnain Hassan (5) and four-month-old Abdul Hadi, were killed.

According to police, Yasin suspected that his wife and daughter had relations with a man residing in the village.

The police shifted the bodies to Bhagtanwala THQ Hospital for the postmortem examination and registered a case under sections 302, 322 and 311 of the PPC, against the suspect.

Further investigation is underway.

Meanwhile, a police officer says the suspect has been arrested and confessed to have killed his six family members. He added that the confessional statement has been verified by one Rashid, who had called the police on 15 helpline.

He said that after the incident, the suspect called his friend Khalid and told him that he had killed his family members and was going to commit suicide.
