DEN BOSCH (Netherlands), June 22: Croatia's Mario Ancic kept his Den Bosch title defence alive by rallying to beat local hero Raemon Sluiter 6-7, 7-5, 6-2 on Wednesday.
The 22-year-old Croat wrapped up the match with two breaks in the final set to reach the quarter-finals.
Ancic next meets France's Fabrice Santoro, who beat Kristof Vliegen of Belgium 2-6, 6-1, 6-4.
Third seed Ancic is the highest ranked player left after Spain's Tommy Robredo lost to France's Florent Serra 6-1, 3-6, 6-4.
In the women's event, top seed Elena Dementieva beat Russian compatriot Elena Vesnina 6-1, 4-6, 6-4 to reach the last eight.
Dementieva struggled to hold serve against her 19-year-old opponent, even conceding a break when she was serving for the match at 5-2 in the final set.
The 24-year-old now meets Ana Ivanovic of Serbia and Montenegro who defeated Czech Iveta Benesova 6-3, 7-5.
Defending champion Klara Koukalova, also of the Czech Republic, was ousted by Dutch teenager Michaella Krajicek, who won 6-7, 6-4, 6-3.
