HARIPUR, June 22: Shafiq-ur-Rehman, chairman of the Wapda Hydroelectric Central Labour Union, and Shafiq Qureshi, divisional chairman of the Wapda Paigham Union, have criticised the provincial government’s decision to levy professional tax on Pesco employees.

Talking to newsmen, the labour leaders said that the Excise and Taxation

Officer, Haripur, has through a letter to deputy managers of Pesco asked them to deduct Rs50 from the salaries of employees drawing Rs3,000 to Rs5,000 a month, Rs100 from those drawing Rs5,000 to Rs10,000, Rs150 from those drawing Rs10,000 to Rs20,000, and Rs250 from those drawing a monthly salary exceeding Rs20,000.
