KAISERSLAUTERN, June 21: Trinidad & Tobago coach Leo Beenhakker took some positives out of his team's 2-0 defeat to Paraguay on Tuesday, a result which meant the end of their first World Cup campaign.

“Of course we are disappointed we lost the game and that we are leaving this tournament,” the Dutchman told reporters.

“It was an open game and we had lots of chances,” he added.

“We take a lot of things out of this tournament, the main thing is we will have more confidence in the future,” he added.

The Dutch coach said scoring was a problem for his side after the Scoa Warriors failed to register a goal in their three group games, despite providing plenty of entertainment for their fans and neutrals.

“We created the opportunities but scoring is a problem in this team,” he said.

“We tried to make it an open game, we had some defensive problems but we were much better in the second half and deserved a goal at least.”

Beenhakker said his squad, predominantly made up of players from lower-tier clubs in the English and Scottish league, had proved the doubters wrong at this tournament.

“Everybody involved in this team can be proud,” he said.

“Before the start the only discussion was if we were going to lose 8-0, 6-0, or 5-0. I don't have any reason to blame my players. They played with courage and confidence.”

Trinidad drew 0-0 with Sweden in their opener and then lost 2-0 to England in Group B. —Reuters
