KASUR, June 21: The European Union Commission has distributed 118 motorcycles among the local field staff of the livestock department, whereas Rs650,000 have been allocated for the renovation of the tehsil veterinary hospital building, Chunian.

European Union Commission co-manager Robert J Bob Corron distributed keys of the motorcycles at a ceremony held at the Jinnah Hall on Tuesday evening with DCO Hashim Tareen in the chair.

Addressing the ceremony, the DCO said the programme had been launched by the EU with the collaboration of the Punjab government to bring a ‘white revolution’ in the province.

He said with the provision of motorcycles to technical staff, farmers would get all facilities at their doorsteps.

Bob Corron stressed the need for inculcating awareness in farmers and technical staff of the livestock to ensure better animal health, breed improvement and poultry predestine.

He said the EU Commission with the collaboration of the Punjab government would start phase-II of the project after the completion of its phase-I.

It must be pointed out that the EU and the Punjab government have initially chosen six districts — Kasur, Gujrat, Bahawalpur, Toba Tek Singh, Bhakkar and Chakwal — for the project.
