JACOBABAD, June 20: Farmers took out a procession against what they called an artificial water shortage created in a distributary in Thull on Tuesday. The procession started from the Thull railway station and after marching on different roads of the town, it went to the irrigation office and observed a sit-in and token hunger strike for one hour.

Protesters were carrying banners and placards and raising slogans against the shortage of water in the canal.

Speakers Mohammad Hassan Sarki, Bahadur Soomro, Abdul Hameed Banglani and Mohammad Qasim Sarki said they had repeatedly tried to approach irrigation officials, but to no avail.

They said thousands acres of land was lying barren due to non-availability of water and the growers facing heavy losses.

ROBBERY: Two men snatched Rs1.15 million from an employee of the General Post Office at gunpoint here Tuesday, in the jurisdiction of Airport police station here on Tuesday.

Cashier Ali Nawaz Bosan and peon Mohammad Siddique Gunio were going on a motorcycle to deposit cash in the National Bank branch of Tower Road in Jacobabad. When they reached Saddar Bazaar, two unknown armed men intercepted them and snatched Rs1.15 million from the cashier and fled.

ANOTHER PIA FLIGHT: The Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has launched one more flight for Jacobabad-Karachi route.

A press release issued by the PIA authorities here on Tuesday said that after the demand by Balochistan people, this facility had been provided.

The flight will take off at 3pm from Jacobabad and from Karachi, it will take off at 4.55pm.
