ISLAMABAD, June 20: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has said that the government is determined to establish peace in Balochistan in order to provide security to people and will ensure a conducive atmosphere throughout the country for implementation of development programmes.

Talking to Balochistan Governor Owais Ahmed Ghani, who called on him at the Prime Minister House here on Tuesday, Mr Aziz said development of Balochistan was a priority and the government had initiated several mega uplift projects worth billions over the past six years to reduce poverty, create jobs and to improve the living standard of people.

He said serious efforts were being made to explore potential in the province in sectors of agriculture, fisheries and minerals, adding that the government was also trying to develop the coastal belt.

The prime minister said that completion of Gwadar Port would generate substantial economic opportunities for Balochistan.

The governor briefed the prime minister about ongoing projects in the province.
