GUJRAT, June 20: Preparations by some top political figures of PML have been completed to make the budget session of Kharian tehsil council on Wednesday (today) a failure.
Sources told Dawn on Tuesday that the top leadership of PML had decided to make the budget session flop in the first phase, which would be followed by a no-trust motion against tehsil nazim Nadeem Asghar Kaira.
They claimed that the top leadership had also requested some political families of Kharian tehsil to bury the hatchet and unite on one platform to ouster the nazim.
It is pertinent to note that MNA Rahman Naseer (Marala group), Naeem Raza (Kotla group) and former provincial minister Mian Tariq Mahmood of Dinga had developed differences with Noor Shah of Qulewal Syedan following denial of tehsil nazim ticket to Mian Tariq by the Chaudhrys.
Shujaat Husain had allotted the ticket to Syed Noorul Hasan Shah, the younger brother of former MNA the late Syed Manzoor Shah. In the election for tehsil nazim, Rahman Naseer, Naeem Raza and Mian Tariq had openly done canvassing for Nadeem Asghar Kaira who had defeated Noor Shah with a margin of two votes.
The sources said a top political figure had convened a meeting of elected representatives of Kharian tehsil at Lalamusa Local Government Academy on Monday (June 19). They did not name the political figure.
The Kharian tehsil consisted of 43 union councils. Around 36 naib nazims and 20 nazims had attended the meeting. Former provincial minister Mian Tariq Mahmood, Kharian naib nazim Irfan Naseer (Marala group), Shahid Raza (Kotla group), Mian Asghar Hayat (Kolian group) and Madad Ali Shah of Qulewal Syedan were also present on the occasion. It was unanimously decided in the meeting that the budget would not be passed today.
PML OFFICE-BEARERS: Reorganisation of PML in eight provincial assembly constituencies of the district has been completed.
District nazim Shafaat Husain after reportedly consulting with Gujrat former MC chairman Chaudhry Tufail and former Kharian Bar Association president Sajjad Akram, have prepared a list of new office-bearers and sent it to the high command for approval.
Details about office-bearers of four provincial assembly constituencies in Gujrat tehsil could not be confirmed. The detail of the remaining four constituencies of Kharian and Sara-i-Alamgir tehsils is as follows.
Mian Tariq of Dinga has been made president at PP-112 while Syed Madad Ali Shah, a cousin of Noor Shah, is the president at PP-113. The Marala and Kotla groups had not been given any representation in the remaining two constituencies. Chaudhry Manzoor Husain, a nazim from Mandi Bhalwal UC, and Iftikhar Bhadar have been made presidents at PP-114 and PP-115, respectively. Mr Manzoor and Mr Bhadar are considered to be close associates of Shahs of Qulewal Syedan.
