BAHAWALNAGAR, June 20: Students took out a rally here on Tuesday to protest against a move to shift Islamia University’s campus to Chishtian, allegedly backed by the district nazim.

The varsity’s Bahawalnagar Campus students’ rally started from the District Headquarters Hospital and concluded at the offices of the district nazim and DCO.

The rallyists were carrying banners and placards inscribed with slogans against District Nazim Mumtaz Mitiana whom they accused of backing the move to shift the varsity campus to Chishtian.

DCO Muzaffar Mahmood came out of his office along with the nazim and assured the students that their demands would be considered sympathetically.

The district nazim, however, denied that any move to shift the campus was under consideration. The students dispersed peacefully after these assurances.

Reports said the accused, Shahbaz, Shahzad, Allah Rakha, Tariq, Ghulam Nabi, all residents of Kot Bahawal Buksh village opened fire on rival party’s Muhammad Iqbal, killing him On the spot.

Saddar Police have registered the case without any arrests.

FINED: District Traffic Police Challaned 1,730 vehicles for rule violations and collected Rs315,700 fine during the last month.

DSP Arshad told journalists that the traffic police challaned 641 buses, 510 wagons, 45 loaders, 75 trucks and 36 rickshaws, while 621 vehicles were impounded for serious violations.
