HYDERABAD, June 20: A girl, who was allegedly gang-raped on June 6, has appealed to the president, prime minister, Sindh governor and chief minister to order the arrest of criminals involved in the assault.

Speaking at a news conference in the press club here on Tuesday, Ms Naila, daughter of Liaquat Ali Rajput, alleged that at about 3:30pm on June 6, 2006, she left her house in Tando Adam’s Ahmedabad locality to attend a Quran Khwani in the house of a relative.

The girl said she had been pushed into a car parked outside her house and a handkerchief put on her mouth, which left her unconscious.

Ms Naila said she had been taken to some place and sexually assaulted by six persons. At about 10pm, she had been brought back in the car and left near her house.

Crying throughout the press conference, she said that when her father and brother, who had gone out looking for her, returned home, she narrated her ordeal to them.

The Tando Adam police refused to register an FIR when she, her father and brother went to the police station to register the case.

She said that the following day, they again went to the police station, met the SHO and requested him to register the FIR.

At first he agreed, but when she told the names of the accused, the SHO said he would register a case after investigating the matter.

Ms Naila said the SHO had also refused to issue a letter for medical examination and asked them to come the next day. When they again went to the police station on June 8, the SHO said police could not register a case against all the accused.

The SHO registered the FIR late in the night, but deleted the names of three accused. She also alleged that the FIR had been distorted.

On the third day of the incident, she had been sent to the Tano Adam taluka hospital for a medical examination. The medical examination had been delayed because her tormentors enjoyed the support of local political figures as well as police, the girl alleged.

She told newsmen that 14 days had passed, but the police had failed to arrest the accused.

She asked human rights organisations and the Sindh PPO to help arrest her tormentors and requested the superior authorities to order the registration of a correct FIR.

Her father, Liaquat Ali Rajput, was present on the occasion.

He declined to tell the names of politicians supporting the accused on the plea that his family was very poor and he was jobless.
