ISLAMABAD, Feb 8: Spokesman of the president and director-general ISPR, Major-General Rashid Qureshi here on Friday said that the government remains determined not to allow corrupt politicians to return to power.

He said this while talking to newsmen on the reported contents of an article by former prime minister Benazir Bhutto in an American daily The Christian Science Monitor.

He said, Benazir Bhutto, who is now advising the US administration to be careful of Pakistan government, had been begging the government for political favours. Since Pakistan government is determined not to allow corrupt politicians to return to power, she is indulging in all sorts of vicious utterances.

Gen Qureshi said, Benazir Bhutto should be ashamed comparing the present government with previous regimes of Iran and Afghanistan.

He categorically stated that the government does not intend to support any political party or group in the forthcoming October elections.

Rejecting Benazir Bhutto’s allegations, he said the foremost concern of the government was to promote national interests, to ensure return of the plundered national wealth into the exchequer, bring the culprits to book, and award them exemplary punishment.

He said by levelling wild allegation against the present government of supporting the Taliban, Osama bin Laden and the Al Qaeda network, “Benazir has told the biggest lie of the century.

“A woman who once prided herself of being the mother of the Taliban was now throwing her child in the lap of others for her own vested political interests,” he said.

Gen Qureshi said that by blaming Pakistan for the skirmishes with India, Benazir Bhutto had proved herself to be a custodian of Indian interests, in a bid to promote her own political expediencies.

Gen Qureshi said there was absolutely no chance of President Musharraf meeting Benazir Bhutto during his official visit to the United States.—APP
