KARACHI, June 19: Six persons have been arrested for illegal slaughtering in Khokhrapar, Malir. A raid was conducted by Malir town and city government officials in UC-6 limits on public complaints about the presence of an illegal abattoir where sick animals were being brought for slaughtering and that water-soaked inferior quality meat was being sold in the local market.

During the raid, at least seven buffaloes were found in the mini-slaughterhouse located in a 120-square-yard plot. The owners of slaughterhouse, Alim and Yasin, were arrested along with four workers. The team also seized over 40kg to 50kg meat.

The raid was conducted in the presence of Malir Town Nazim Ansar Sheikh, UC Nazim Aqeel Ansari and land, trade licence and city government health department officials.

Those arrested have been handed to the police and the slaughterhouse has been sealed.
