GUJRANWALA, June 18: The district police officer got a murder case registered against four officials who shot dead a motorist for not stopping at a picket here on Sunday.

Near Kohlowala on Sheikhupura Road, a police party intercepted the vehicle at a picket and opened fire when the driver did not allegedly stop it. As a result of which Abu Zer was killed on the spot.

DPO Mian Muhammad Asif reached the spot along with heavy force following reports that the area people had gathered there and were chanting slogans against the police. He got arrested SI Zulfikar Ali and three constables Akram, Ashfaq and Iftikhar Ahmad of Saddar police and suspended them from service.

Later, the police in a handout claimed that Abu Zer and his friends were involved in a dacoity case.

SUMMER CAMPS: The private educational institutions were holding `summer camps’ at their respective campuses in the scorching June heat allegedly for fleecing parents of students during the three-month summer vacation.

The affected parents complained here on Sunday that while the government institutions had implemented the Punjab Education department’s order seeking closure of academic activities from June 6 for summer vacation, most of the private institutes started summer camps at their respective campuses.

They said these private institutions had already collected fees for summer vacation, but now they charging extra fees from the students for theses summer camps, which was wrong.

The parents said for the students, especially those in junior classes, it was hard to travel to and from their schools in the harsh weather.

They demanded that executive district officer (Education) should take stern action against the owners of theses private educational institutions for not implementing government directive.
