KARACHI, June 18: The Nazim of Saddar Town, Muhammad Dilawer, on Sunday directed concerned police officers to evolve an effective strategy for the elimination of crimes in the town.

He was chairing a meeting regarding traffic problems and the state of crimes in Saddar Town with officials of the town’s police, said a statement.

The nazim directed the police officials to ensure regular patrolling in their respective jurisdictions and to keep vigil on anti-social elements.

The meeting also discussed some reports regarding street crimes in different areas of the town like cellphone snatching.

The nazim also directed the officials of traffic police to deploy more force at different vantage points to strictly enforce traffic rules and check the violation of no-parking zones, particularly during rush hours.

Speaking at the meeting, the town’s Naib Nazim, Nasir Temori, said people should obey traffic rules and cooperate with the police.

He also called for development of effective coordination between the town administration and police officials for elimination of crimes from the entire town.

The TMO, councillors of different union councils and concerned police officials were present in the meeting.

Demo: Pasban Karachi on Sunday staged a protest demonstration against police highhandedness in Lyari.

Addressing the demonstrators in front of Karachi Police Club, Pasban Karachi President Ashraf Hussain said that certain officials of Baghdadi and Kalakot police stations had given free hand to robbers, drug mafia and extortionists to loot and plunder the innocent people of Lyari.

To add to public grievances, some policemen in civvies were conducting raids and harassing residents in various areas of Lyari, he said. “They search houses without warrants, beat up youth and misbehave with women,” he added.

The demonstrators holding placards against criminal activities in Lyari raised slogans against the police. Pasban Lyari President Akram Agria and General Secretary Rafiq Shaheen also spoke. Abid Baloch, Rafiq Baloch, Ramzan Commando and others were present.—APP/PPI
