KARACHI, June 18: Speakers at a demonstration on Sunday demanded that dearness allowance, announced recently by the government, should be paid to workers of the Karachi Shipyard immediately.

The demonstration was organized by the Karachi Shipyard Labour Union’s CBA at the Karachi Press Club. A large number of the shipyard workers’ children participated in the demonstration.

Condemning the management’s anti-worker attitude, they said that while it was not accepting the charter of demands submitted by the union over four years, the officers brought into the organization on deputation were being paid high salaries and other fringe benefits.

Wali Khan, Ghani Zaman, Shafiq Ghauri and others also spoke at the demonstration.
