ISLAMABAD: Young Consultants Association Pakistan (YCAP) has condemned the murder of Dr Mehwish in Kohat. The association has alleged that the incident showed complete failure of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) govt to provide safe working environment for health professionals.

Dr Mehwish was shot dead in the Kohat Development Authority (KDA) area last week when unidentified persons opened fire on her while she was returning home after completing her duty at the District Headquarters Hospital Kohat. She was in a rickshaw at the time of the attack.

YCAP Chairman Dr Asfandyar Khan has urged the KP Chief Minister Sohail Afridi and Dr Nosherwan Barki to look into the issue. He has also criticised them for failing to safeguard health professionals especially female doctors and nurses.

He said that the situation of health sector was in abysmal condition due to medical teaching institution under which hospitals have been directed to generate funds for them.
