PESHAWAR: Awami National Party provincial president Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Monday condemned the killing of Dr Mahwish in Kohat and described it a tragic incident.

In a statement, he said that Dr Mahwish, who was returning home from duty, was shot dead on a roadside. “The murder of a ‘healer and saviour of life is heartbreaking and alarming,” he said. He condemned the incident and extended heartfelt condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family.

Mr Hussain said that it was not the first incident of violence against doctors and healthcare workers in the province. ANP remained in constant contact with doctors regarding the case, he said. He pledged that the party would raise its voice on every forum to ensure justice for Dr Mahwish.

He noted that doctors and medical staff were already working under immense pressure and with limited resources. He said that ensuring their safety was the primary responsibility of state and government.

The ANP leader urged provincial government and relevant law enforcement agencies to conduct transparent and immediate investigation into the incident and ensure that the people responsible for the act were brought to justice and punished according to law.
