UMERKOT: Kunri police conducted a raid during an underage marriage ceremony in Village Krishan Wanio, near Pako Morr and arrested several individuals, including the bride, groom, pandit and facilitators.

A case was registered against a total of 10 suspects.

According to the police, the action was taken following a complaint by the girl’s mother, Kavita Kolhi.

During the raid, the underage bride Gudi Kolhi, 13, the groom Moolchand, 12, Pandit Danu Kolhi, and the bride’s father and grandfather, among others, were taken into custody and initially moved to the Kunri Police Station.

After necessary legal procedures, the bride and the groom were transferred to the Women Police Station in Umerkot.

The case was registered on the complaint of the bride’s mother, Kavita Kolhi against the groom Moolchand, Pandit Danu Kolhi, the father-in-law, brother-in-law, the groom’s mother Shrimati Ramoon Kolhi, brother Ramesh Kolhi, as well as Porho, Yusuf, and Shahnawaz Kapri.

The FIR states that an attempt was made to forcibly marry off the underage girl.

The mother, Kavita Kolhi, maintained that her daughter was a minor and that the in-laws attempted to marry her off forcibly after “selling” her for 50,000 rupees.

On the other hand, the girl’s grandfather, Dado Kolhi, denied the allegations, stating that the child was not sold for money and claiming that the mother herself wanted to arrange the marriage in Balochistan.

The SHO of Kunri police station stated that the arrested suspects would be presented in court while further investigation was underway.

The police emphasised that underage marriage is a serious crime and action is being taken according to the law.
