RAWALPINDI: The City Traffic Police have launched a crackdown against people using LEDs, flashers and revolving blue and red lights mounted on rooftops, dashboards or grills of their vehicles and motorcycles.

The initiative is aimed at preventing accidents and ensuring road safety.

These high-visibility LEDs, often mounted on roofs, dashboards or grills, are unauthorized and using them on private vehicles is illegal.

A police spokesman said Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam has issued orders for strict action against those installing LEDs, flashers and police lights on vehicles and motorcycles.

The CTO stated that at night, proper headlights of vehicles and motorcycles play the role of eyes, the correct use of which protects the driver as well as other road users from accidents to some extent.

The use of LEDs and police blue and red lights in vehicles is a crime under the law.

He said that the education wing of the traffic police was also conducting awareness campaigns among road users to protect them from accidents and promote road safety.

In this, awareness pamphlets are also being distributed among road users, telling them about the benefits of headlights, backlights and correct signals, and the use of LEDs and police lights and their disadvantages.

Therefore, citizens are also requested to avoid using LEDs, flashers and police lights in vehicles and motorcycles because road safety is a joint responsibility of us.

On the other hand, following the orders of the deputy inspector general of traffic police, Punjab, licensing and police station vans are working to serve the public.

A weekly schedule of mobile licensing vans has been issued for the guidance and convenience of citizens living in remote areas.

According to the in-charge Driving Licence Branch Inspector Imtiaz Khan, mobile police vans will provide facilities at

Fawara Chowk, Raja Bazaar and Dhok Syedan Chowk on Monday, Union Council Galiana and Dhok Kashmirian Shamsabad on Tuesday, Kotkal Village

Kallar Syedan and PirWadhai Bus Stand on Wednesday, Kolliyal stop, old Airport Road and Fawara Chowk on Thursday, Jhawara Picket Dhamial and Raja Bazaar on Friday, Bhoora Hayal Kahuta and Union Council Pind Jhatla on Saturday, while special rickshaw tests will be conducted at Old Waran Depot on Sunday.

The CTO said that mobile licensing facilities are being provided to citizens at their doorsteps through licensing vans, while learner and driving licences are also being issued to motorcyclists on the same day.

Therefore, citizens should also take full advantage of this opportunity and immediately obtain their driving license from their nearest licensing centre or service centre.
