NOWSHERA, June 17: A dispute over a second marriage resulted in the killing of a man, his wife and another woman in the Khaweshgi Bala village here on Saturday.

Ali Sadbarg, father of the deceased man, filed a police report in which he alleged that his son, Lal Johareen, was attacked by his in-laws in front of his house. He said that his son and one of his uncles, Jehanzeb, were going somewhere on a motorbike. He did not elaborate.

He said that when he rushed outside his home after hearing gunshots, he saw his son lying on the ground in a pool of blood. He said that the attackers had escaped, waving guns.

He nominated Atlas Khan, Mohammad Jan, Khushdil, Zahoor, Lal Daraz, Bakht Jamal, Tilla Mohammad, Nowsherwan and Shah Iran in the FIR, saying that they had carried out the alleged attack.

The accused also filed a police report in which they blamed Jehanzeb, Lal Sadbarg, Gul Anbar and Ghani Sadbarg for attacking their house and killing Dilraja, Lal Johareen’s wife and her cousin, Shahjehana, Shah Iran’s wife.

The triple murders were sparked by a dispute between Ms Dilraja and her husband, who used to work as a dispenser in the Bara area in Khyber Agency, over his second marriage. The deceased was believed to have married another woman from Charsadda.

Ms Dilraja had opted to move back to her parent’s house after she learnt about her husband’s second wife.

The issue was subsequently put before an arbitration jirga that had decided that Lal Johareen would not be allowed to visit his village.

It is said that Johareen had sneaked into the village when he was attacked by the accused.

The police have so far arrested three people.
