PESHAWAR, June 17: The director, health services in Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), Dr Muhammad Zubair, on Saturday asked the authorities concerned to improve the TB control programme in Fata.

Addressing the concluding session of a ‘Six-day TB Dots (Directly Observed Treatment Short course) workshop for Fata doctors’, he said the government was taking all steps to resolve problems being faced by doctors.

He asked participants to present proposals in writing to improve the TB control programme.

Dr Zubair urged the Agency TB Officers (ATOs) to keep liaison with surgeons to effectively combat tuberculosis and announced that ATOs would soon be provided with transport facility.

Referring to the shortage of medicines, he directed the officials to ensure availability of TB drugs in their agencies.

The workshop was informed that 24 diagnostic centres and 212 treatment centres were operating in Fata and that seven more such facilities in each agency would be set up next year.—APP
