KARACHI, June 16: Two big names in the game top seed and reigning national champion, Khurram Agha, and former world champion, Mohammad Yousuf, fell victim at the hands of little known players on the opening day of the 10th Style ranking snooker tournament at Karachi Gymkhana on Friday.

Unfancied Mohammad Riaz sent shocking waves when he stunned Khurram 4-3 in the fully stretched battle played in the morning session. He was home 74-42, 52-53, 43-76, 55-17, 68-39, 50-81, 49-35.

In the concluding session, Punjab’s Imtiaz Tipu toppled ninth seed Yousuf 4-1 without facing much resistance the result being 63-43, 76-19, 78-42, 18-55, 60-18.

Punjab’s Imran Shahzad, second seed and losing finalist of this year’s nationals, and eight seed Vishan Gir were at their best when they cracked splendid century breaks against Mohammad Baqar and Mohammad Sadiq.

Defending champion and fourth seed, Saleh Mohammad, was conspicuous by his absence.

After being knocked out 1-6 by Khurram in the pre-final of national championship, he failed to show up at the Pakistan Cue Masters last month.
