KARACHI, June 16: Corps Commander Lt-Gen Ahsan Azhar Hayat took oath of the office of President Executive Board of Defence Housing Authority on Friday.Addressing the Executive Board meeting, he asked DHA officials to maintain highest standards of excellence in all its policies and undertakings. The board considered and approved a number of expansion and modernisation plans to enhance the efficiency and viability of DHA institutions.

The board was informed that the uplift and refurbishment work of DHA Phase-I had already gained momentum and was now being completed with renewed impetus by the new contractor. The ongoing work includes laying of water and sewerage lines, new water connections to residences, construction of storm water drainage and carpeting/repairing of roads.

DHA Administrator Brig Maqsood Hussain said that after the initial experience in Phase-I, the DHA would now execute the renovation and up-gradation of other phases of Defence more smoothly and speedily to improve the infrastructure in the area.

Lt-Gen Ahsan Azhar Hayat said that Defence was supposed to be developed as a model residential estate of the country. He said that security in the DHA should be improved and improvised imaginatively to ensure peaceful living in Defence.

He asked DHA vigilance branch to play an effective and proactive role in this regard.

The board was informed that hi-tech security cameras and alarm system were being installed on busy roads while the DHA vigilance branch had been re-equipped with modern vehicles and communication to enhance its response and effectiveness.

It was further informed that waste disposal and sanitation in two sectors of DHA had recently been assigned to two new contractors who had employed equipment, machinery, vehicles and workforce to ensure efficient waste disposal and debris collection daily from residential localities while twice a day in commercial areas.

Ahsan Hayat stressed the need for launching an effective media campaign to ensure active involvement and participation of residents in cleanliness campaign. He also emphasised introduction of the concept of sweeping and cleaning of the area at night for better outlook of the areas.

The board decided that an elegantly designed DHA office complex would be constructed in DHA Phase-VIII. Leading architect firms of the country gave design caters for spacious parking area and a modern layout with all facilities.

Earlier, DHA Administrator Brig Maqsood Hussain gave an in-depth briefing of the progress made so far in the ongoing mega projects in Defence.—PPI
