ISLAMABAD, June 15: ‘Acid-soaked’ ginger is on sale not only in Islamabad but also in Karachi and Lahore, traders said here on Thursday. They said Karachi and Islamabad were the two main cities where bulk of ginger is imported through sea and land routes. Ginger arriving by sea is stored in Karachi and that from China through the Sust dryport ends up in Islamabad.

As in Islamabad, ginger is soaked in acid and chemicals in Karachi and Lahore and supplied to other parts of the country.

Sources said that in the wake of crackdown in Islamabad people involved in the business in other places became cautious but continued their dirty work.

Such elements in Karachi and Lahore wholesale vegetable markets were still engaged in the nefarious activity, the sources said.
