BAJAUR: The residents of Lowi Mamund tehsil on Thursday expressed resentment over slow pace of work on rehabilitation of Umary-Laghari Road and demanded of the authorities to expedite it.

Talking to journalists, the residents of different areas of the region, including elders, political activists and transporters, alleged that the ongoing rehabilitation work on Umary-Laghari Road was extremely slow.

They claimed that they were told that the rehabilitation of over six kilometres road, a major artery linking Lowi Mamund tehsil with the rest of the district, would be completed by March 2025, when it was inaugurated by MPA Dr Hamidur Rehman in November 2024.

However, they regretted that the road was still incomplete. They said that it disappointed residents of the area.

They said that only a two-kilometre stretch of the road was completed in more than 14 months.

“The slow pace of work on the road is causing serious inconvenience to commuters. It also causes scuffles among drivers as one side of the road has been occupied by construction material,” said Nimat Khan, Abdullah, Shah Wali Khan, Farman Khan and others.

They urged the MPA and relevant authorities to expedite work on the road, in view of the daily hardships faced by thousands of people.

A member of Dr Hamidur Rehman’s development committee told this scribe that work on the road was progressing very slowly.

However, he claimed that work on the project would be accelerated on Sunday as the contractor had promised to increase workers and machinery within three days.
