ISLAMABAD: A suspect was injured by a bullet fired by his accomplices during an encounter with the police, while two of his accomplices managed to escape, police said on Monday.

The shoot-out took place about a kilometre away from the Gorla Police Station, where a case has been registered under different sections of Pakistan Penal Code, Arms Ordinance and Foreigners Act against the suspects.

The police said five police officials, in a private vehicle on patrolling duty, set up a halting point at Chora Stop for routine checking. The police signaled three persons riding a motorcycle after they appeared from the Golra railway station side. However, the suspects turned towards a nearby nullah. They then disembarked from the bike and “opened indiscriminate firing on the police with an intention to kill the policemen,” said the FIR.

The policemen took cover in the ravine and the gunmen ran towards the nullah.

“Escaping from the spot, one of the gunmen sustained a bullet injury fired by his accomplices and fell down.”

Later, the police overpowered the injured suspect and recovered a 30-bore pistol from his possession. During the preliminarily interrogation, the injured identified himself as a native and resident of Kunduz, Afghanistan. His two accomplices managed to escape, said the FIR.

The injured was shifted to hospital for medical assistance. The police confiscated the motorcycle. The suspect failed to produce any valid documents for staying in Pakistan. Besides, he also failed to produce a licence for the locally-made pistol.

The police said the suspect was wanted by the capital police in connection with 14 cases registered against him under separate charges, including robberies, recovery of arms and staying in Pakistan without any valid documents since 2019. He was also a proclaimed offender in connection with a case registered at the Golra Police Station on August 8, 2019.
